Last Week in Las Vegas Sports (Mar 27 - Apr 2)

Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders looking for a sweet spot in negotiations, Formula One reveals Sin City will host a street race in 2023, and more last week in Las Vegas sports

# 5 Logan Thompson gains first career shutout

It's no secret that the Las Vegas Golden Knights are fighting for their playoff lives right now, and while there aren't a lot of positives to talk about, we can mention Logan Thompson. The goalie shut out Seattle Kracken on March 30. While it might not be the greatest of victories, especially considering the opponent's rank, Thompson still came up clutch when it counted. He also helped Las Vegas rack up some points that will help them in the playoff race

#4 Former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden sells home

Jon Gruden voluntarily resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021 after a string of leaked emails revealed problematic language, and a lot has happened since then. Rich Bisaccia took over as interim coach for Las Vegas and even led the team to the playoffs, while Gruden filed a lawsuit claiming that Commissioner Roger Goodell leaked the emails intentionally to ruin his coaching career. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas sports fanbase remains relatively torn on whether Gruden deserved to lose his job or not.

Fast forward to 2022, and Gruden has reportedly sold his Las Vegas mansion for $7 million.

#3 New PFF article claims Las Vegas Raiders will win under 8.5 games in 2022.

The Las Vegas Raiders made the playoffs for the first time in almost a decade in 2022, but there are still some people who aren't impressed. In fact, a new article released by PFF.com claims that the team will win no more than eight games in 2022. That's just ridiculous considering the Davantae Adams trade.

“The Davante Adams and Chandler Jones additions vaulted them to the most improved non-quarterback team in the NFL, but they are still priced with the longest odds to win the NFL’s most difficult division. They have a 66.7% implied probability to miss the playoffs... PFF’s simulation projects them to finish with less than 8.5 wins on 61.08% of outcomes.”

#2 Formula 1 coming to Las Vegas

Las Vegas is already a wild place to be on any given day, and the city will get a chance to prove that when they host a Formula 1 race right on the Strip!

"This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the U.S.," F1 CEO and president Stefano Domenicali said when asked about the race. "Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills, and of course, the famous Strip."

#1 Derek Carr and Las Vegas Raiders looking for a sweet spot in negotiations.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels wants to work with Derek Carr, but what will it cost to keep him? The two parties appear to be looking for a sweet spot, pointing to the idea that the team might want Carr to prove himself on a short-term deal. They might be trying to talk him down from his $35 million asking price.

"I think ultimately, you try to do what’s best for the team and I think both sides got to do what’s best for them,”  Josh McDaniels said during an interview in Palm Beach. "When we get into those conversations with Derek... there will be a sweet spot in there hoping for everybody, and we’ll be excited to go forward like that.”
