5 Things to Do if You're Driving from LA to Vegas

Driving from Los Angeles, heading into the secluded, barren landscape that surrounds Las Vegas offers up incredible scenery. There's a lot to see and do on the way. If you have the time to explore, stop at the following attractions.

1. Elmer's Bottle Tree Ranch

Located along the famous Route 66, the Bottle Tree Ranch is a fun and exciting place to visit on this road trip. It's a two-acre forest of colorful glass bottle trees. There are hundreds of old glass bottles hanging from metal pipes and other vintage things that look beautiful in the desert sunlight. This outdoor attraction is free to enter, but they do accept donations.

2. Peggy Sue's '50s Diner

Looking for a place to stop halfway through your journey? Peggy Sue's 50's Diner is the place. Erected in 1954, Peggy Sue's is a classic diner decorated with movie and TV memorabilia from Americana's golden age. The restaurant offers good home-made food and a great sampling of 50's music. Try their chicken-fried steak served with country gravy. And don't forget about the best part- apple pie!

3. World's Tallest Thermometer

The 'World's Tallest Thermometer' is a landmark you can see as you approach Baker, CA. The thermometer was created to commemorate the highest ever recorded temperature (134 degrees Fahrenheit) in nearby Death Valley during 1913. The structure stands at 134 feet tall and can display different temperature levels up to 134 degrees.

4. Seven Magic Mountains

Also known as the Neon rocks, the Seven Magic Mountains is a brightly colored, 30-foot art installation located ten miles south of Las Vegas.  It is probably the most popular stopover when road-tripping from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. 5. Pioneer Saloon

If you need to unwind after your long drive and get in the excitement of Sin City, why not stop by Pioneer Saloon? Erected in 1913, it's one of the oldest bars in the Nevada desert. Clark Gable and other Hollywood celebrities frequented the bar. Inside you will find a friendly atmosphere and tons of memorabilia on the walls. It is an excellent spot for food and drinks before making your way to the Strip.
