4 Unusual Laws Only Found In Las Vegas

Las Vegas may have a reputation for being a place where only the craziest, weirdest, and strangest things happen, however, that doesn’t mean that the city hasn’t tried to put a stop to all of the shenanigans going on! It’s surprising to see just how many unusual laws they have – but even more strange is when you stop to think about what exactly brought these on.

Here are five strange laws only found in Las Vegas.

1. No Camels On The Highway

If you’re planning to bring along your camel to serve as a primary mode of transportation in Las Vegas, well, you can forget about it. The law came into effect during the 19th century when camels were used to transport goods and materials across the scorching heat of the Nevada desert. They might have been efficient, but they also caused more harm than good, hence the ban.

2. Dentures Can’t Be Pawned

The hit History Channel television series, Pawn Stars, put the city’s pawnshop industry on the map, turning the business – along with its staff – into household names. From historical artifacts to expensive jewelry, anything can be pawned in Las Vegas – except dentures, that is!

3. Communists Can’t Be Hired

While the Cold War officially ended in 1991, American paranoia about communism hasn’t completely faded. With the fear that communists might still one day return and take over the country, Las Vegas law prescribes that no business in the city is allowed to hire individuals proclaiming themselves to be an active Communist.

4. No Feeding Pigeons

This may be a popular pastime in other states but in Las Vegas, feeding pigeons is strictly not allowed. These feathered creatures are blamed by government officials, seen as the culprits behind destroyed buildings and attacks on pedestrians. To discourage them from making their homes in the city, law dictates that those caught feeding pigeons are liable for a jail term of up to six months.
