1. Scottsdale
Located just outside Phoenix, the old town of Scottsdale draws visitors for its entertainment, waterfront, restaurants, and arts district. So, make this your first stop for some great food, and quick shopping. Its shopping district has exquisite boutiques, gift shops, and unique apparel stores.
2. Montezuma Castle National Monument
If you love history, especially Native American history, you should stop at the Montezuma Castle National Monument. Located 300 miles to Vegas, this historical site gives you an opportunity to travel nearly a thousand years back when the Sinagua Indians inhabited the area. At the site, there is a gift shop and museum with all the information about Montezuma castle.
3. Nothing
Nothing is an abandoned town located on a lonely road 180 miles to Las Vegas. The town was established in 1977 by four friends and had only two buildings, a gas station, a garage plus a small roadside market. There is nothing much to see or do here, but it makes an excellent spot for an interesting photo.
4. Wikieup Trading Post Restaurant
This is a typical tourist restaurant in Wikieup, a town located half-way between Phoenix and Las Vegas. It is a perfect location for a bathroom stop, stretching your legs and getting some food if you're hungry. There is also a gas station. It's right on the road so there's easy access.
5. Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Situated on the border of Arizona and Nevada, Lake Mead is one of the final places you can stop by as you approach Las Vegas. It is the ideal place to enjoy the outdoors after a long drive. Swimming, sailing, and touring the Hoover dam are some activities you can enjoy here if you have the time.
