The Las Vegas Aces have already nabbed a spot in the playoffs, but what happens once they get there? Is this a team that can go all the way and win their first title in organization history, or will they flop again?
1. Chip on their shoulders
The Las Vegas Aces showed all the promise in the world heading into the 2019 WNBA playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by eventual champions, the Washington Mystics. The early elimination was completely embarrassing and raised serious questions about the organization. Could they hang in for the long haul?
With all the tenacity emanating from this team at the moment, it seems as if that loss to the Washington Mystics is fresh in their mind and they are doing everything they can to avenge it. The only question left to ask is whether they achieve that goal or not.
2. The offense
It s no secret that the Las Vegas Aces have one of the most dynamic offenses in the entire league right now and they currently stand at 89 points per game. Of course, a lot of that is due to A ja Wilson averaging 20 PPG, Angel McCoughtry averaging 14.7 PPG, and Dearica Hamby sitting at 12.9, but their supporting cast is beyond savage as well.
In fact, between Kayla McBride, Jackie Young, and Danielle Robinson all putting up big numbers in clutch games, the Las Vegas Aces have a good chance of going all the way this year.
3. Rebounding percentages
Believe it or not, it s the little things that count, and one of those little things for the Las Vegas Aces is their otherworldly defensive rebound percentage. The number currently sits at 29.10, which is the league-high and helps explain why the Aces have been so successful this season.
It s these kinds of little factors that are going to lead to a championship.
4. Free throws
Another thing that seems small, but really can add up during a game is free throws, which the Aces have been pretty stellar this year. These women know how to rack up every single point they can in order to win. The whole team has a 70% free throw percentage with Kayla McBride averaging 90%
5. Three point percentage
Again, these extra points mean everything and that includes three-point shots. Fortunately for The Las Vegas Aces, they currently have 35.4 field goal percentage, which is 3.4 points higher than their opponents this season. While that might not seem like much, especially with how close the averages are, Dearica Hamby and Angel McCougthry are both shooting 40% from the three-point line.
Furthermore, Danielle Robinson, Lindsey Allen, Kayla McBride and Sugar Rodgers all have three-point percentages at 30% or above. This is a team to be reckoned with. If they keep putting up these numbers, a championship is within grasp. How can you stop precision shooting like this?
