Top 5 Plays From the Raiders vs Dolphins Game

The Raiders' playoff chances might be gone, but they showed a lot of promise in defeat.

#5 One-yard touchdown run by Derek Carr

Derek Carr had a lot to prove in Saturday night s game against Miami Dolphins, and his running ability was one of those things. Fortunately for the Raiders quarterback, he managed to rush one yard for a touchdown and an early lead against the Miami Dolphins. The drive also included a 16-yard pass to Nelson Agholor for an early first down and a 13-yard run by Josh Jacobs.

#4 23-yard field goal by Daniel Carlson

It started as a 15-yard run up the middle by Josh Jacobs but quickly started to pick up steam with every passing play. Next thing you know, Derek Carr connects on a 19-yard pass to Nelson Agholor, which gives the Raiders yet another first down.  Finally, there was a 10-yard run by Joshua Jacobs that put the team in Dolphins territory.

While this would be their big chance to go up 14-3 heading into halftime, it didn t turn out that way. Instead, Carr would get sacked, lose yards and start to throw incompletions. It got to a point where the Raiders were backed against the wall on a key third down, and no one could deliver. That s why Daniel Carlson had to come in and finish the job himself. This resulted in a score of 10-3 but was still disappointing to watch.

#3 Defense comes up big in first half.

Can we just a second to appreciate that the Las Vegas Raiders held the Dolphins to six points in the first half of the game? Sure, the nominal feat was outdone after a second-half touchdown by Miami, but it is at least a sign that the Raiders can get key stops on defense.

Seriously though, the Raiders' defense was able to get the Dolphins off the field after a third and one situation. Not only would that have been an instant first down on any other occasion, but it also proved that the team is getting better.

#2 Defense comes up big in first half.

No, your eyes didn t deceive you. The Las Vegas Raiders defense really did just get the Miami Dolphins off the field with only three points on the board.  Of course, the Dolphins did end up benching Tua Tagovailoa in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick, but this was still very much a small victory for the Raiders' defense.

Fitzpatrick did get a 13-yard pass out to Isiah Ford for a first down, and an 18-yard pass to Mike Gesicki, but threw too many incompletions when the moment called for greatness.  This forced the Dolphins to go for a field goal, which tied up the score at 16-16.

#1 85-yard pass from Derek Carr to Nelson Agholor

One play, 85 yards, and one of the best touchdowns that Derek Carr has had all season. Those are the only words that deserve to describe the beautiful series of events that unfolded on Saturday. While Carr s 80-yard bomb to Nelson Agholor would be upended by a Dolphins touchdown, it was still one of the greatest moments of the entire Raiders season.

Although the game resulted in a loss for the Raiders, this was still proof that they can be elite when the moment calls for it. They just don t seem to be able to finish the job.

In the end, the Raiders lost 26-25, and are officially out of the postseason.
