The Las Vegas Raiders might be Sin City’s most known team to the casual sports fan,  but the Golden Knights are actually the first professional sports franchise to call it home. They were announced as an expansion team in 2017. Despite an NHL team not calling  Las Vegas home for a long time, the city began hosting games for other teams as early as 1992. The first game was a contest between the Los Angeles Kings and the New York Rangers . 

In their inaugural year, the Golden Knights became one of the only teams in NHL history to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals on their first attempt. The team was ultimately usurped by the Washington Capitals, who beat them in five games. Unfortunately for the Golden Knights, they haven’t made it back to the Stanely Cup Finals since then and seem far away from the goal in 2022.
