From the Raiders' defense holding their own against the San Francisco 49ers to Becky Hammon making the Hall of Fame, here is last week in Las Vegas sports (Aug 7 - 13).

The Las Vegas Raiders need some positive momentum and arguably got it during their joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers. The Raiders' defense is now the talk of the town after picking off the 49er's Quarterback multiple times before their big game on Sunday.
"I like the idea of any defense we put out there being aggressive and trying to get the ball," Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said. "We talked about that all offseason, seeing if we could improve ourselves in that area. I think the players have worked really hard at some of the techniques that you would use in trying to create turnovers."
#4 Becky Hammon announced as 2023 Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame inductee

Becky Hammon is one of the best coaches in Basketball right now, and she is racking up accolades. It should come as no surprise that she has been named an inductee to the 2023 Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.
The announcement comes while Hammon is putting on a clinic in the WNBA with her Las Vegas Aces. Not only is that evident by their 22-3 record, but also due to how they clinched a playoff spot six weeks early. A'ja Wilson recently broke her silence about her head coach getting this major nod.
"It's super dope just to see how much she's just changed the game as a player and as a coach," she said of Hammon, per Andy Yamashita of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "It's huge. We're excited to hear her speech. We're excited just to cheer her on always. It's right in the middle between two games, so she's probably going to be all over the place."
#3 Jonathon Marchessault and Las Vegas Golden Knights reportedly haven't discussed an extension

The Las Vegas Golden Knights are Stanley Cup Champions after a hard-fought season. Unfortunately, there might not be much time to enjoy it after a recent interview with Jonathon Marchessault revealed that he has had no contract extension talks with the Golden Knights. This comes in the final year of his contract in Las Vegas.
"There are no negotiations that have been done," Marchessault told TVA Sports last week. "Know that sometimes the Golden Knights like to take their time with that. We will see what it will give. We have built something exceptional. But the life of a hockey player is never safe. That's what keeps us humble, and it's possible [that the rest of my career] will be elsewhere."
Some hope the Golden Knights will get a deal done with Marchessault, but the organization is known for making controversial moves. One of them is when they decided to trade Reily Smith just weeks after winning the 2023 championship. Another crazy example is 2022 when they shipped Marc-Andre Fleury off to the Chicago Blackhawks.

#2 Big Ten Championship game coming to Las Vegas according to report

Allegiant Stadium is becoming a venue of choice for major sports events and is even the host of the 2024 Super Bowl. As if that isn't exciting enough, some speculate that another big event could be coming too! One sports reporter claims that the Big Ten Football Championship game may be doing a one-off in Las Vegas.
"I think that the Big Ten football people are getting very, very close — in fact, maybe dotting I's and crossing T's — that the Big Ten Football Championship is coming to Las Vegas," Ken Miller said Thursday. "Potentially twice in the next five years. This is happening quick," Miller went on to say. "Apparently, the Big Ten offices, Big Ten commissioner, whoever is in charge of that, is getting real close to signing off on the Big Ten Football Championship moving from Indianapolis for at least a couple of years."
#1 Las Vegas Raiders destroy San Francisco 49ers in week one of preseason

The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-7 on Sunday to start the preseason 1-0. Las Vegas struck first with a great series of passes by Aidan O'Connell to get the team down the field. Zamir White ended up punching it in from the one-yard line for the first score of the game.
The Raiders scored again in the second quarter after a nine-yard pass from O'Connell made its way to Keelan Cole in the endzone. While the Raiders gave up a touchdown late in the first half, that was a one-time mistake.
The Las Vegas Raiders get rough in the second half
In fact, the Raiders went on to score 20 unanswered points in the second half and destroy their first preseason opponents of the year. O'Connell leads the way going 15 of 18 for 143 yards and one touchdown. Chase received a few snaps as well, completing 3 of five for 11 yards and one touchdown of his own.
Running duties were split between Zamir White and Sincere McCormick, who both knocked one in for Las Vegas. As for the passing game, that was dominated by Cole Fotheringham, who caught five passes for 71 yards. Keelan Cole also helped Fotheringham with six catches for 29 yards and one touchdown of his own
The defense holding as they did in this game is an imposing start for an unproven squad. Maybe Josh McDaniels is starting to find ways to improve on that side of the ball. Unfortunately, the offense looks kind of stagnant without Josh Jacobs at the helm. Either way, the Raiders face the LA Rams in their second playoff game of the season next Saturday at 9 pm.
