The Jon Gruden email scandal continues to rock the sports world this week after attorneys for the National Football league asked a judge to dismiss his claims against the league. Gruden’s lawsuit alleges that the NFL orchestrated the entire scandal by leaking his emails to the media.
"Gruden does not, and cannot, dispute that he wrote the published emails. He does not, and cannot, dispute that he sent those emails to multiple parties," the league's filing reads. "Nor does he claim that they were somehow altered or edited and that the repugnant views espoused in them were not in fact expressed by him. Instead, Gruden filed the instant complaint against the NFL and the commissioner, painting himself as the victim in a fictional story and seeking money through baseless claims against the NFL."
Gruden signed a ten-year, $100 million contract with the Raiders in 2018, but the former Super Bowl-winning coach resigned in shame three years later after the incriminating emails were released. The job was quickly taken over by Rich Bisaccia, who helped the Raiders to a 7-5 record and a playoff spot.
