Darren Waller went down with a bad knee injury during the Las VegasRaiders' Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys and was out for five weeks as a result. The star tight end was then hit with COVID-19 protocol and forced to stay off the field another week. Despite these setbacks, he returned for the regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers and recorded two receptions for 22 yards.

Injuries are always tough to deal with for any NFL player, but Waller had an added problem to deal with due to his previous substance abuse issues. Between being off the field for weeks and having a lot of time on his hands, he found himself battling his demons once again as he was forced to watch from the sidelines.

"Because of my disease of addiction, that can have me thinking all kinds of crazy things," Waller said Wednesday. "So, I've got to make sure that I'm talking about those things when I have all that idle time... Just staying solid, keeping my head out of that idle time, and just into things that I enjoy. And stay into the game of football as much as I can."
