It's no secret that the Las Vegas Aces have been on the losing end of the stick for quite a few seasons now, but that's not the whole story. The team usually dominates throughout the regular season, only to get destroyed come playoff time. One year, the Aces even made the Finals, only to get swept by the Seattle Storm in three games.
Another year, they ran at the top of their division but were eliminated in the very first round of the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Aces, this problematic pattern has forced CBS.com analysts to rank them fourth in the 2022 WNBA power rankings. That puts them behind the Chicago Sky, Seattle Storm, and the Connecticut Suns.
According to CBS.com's WNBA power rankings, "Last season was all too familiar for the Aces, as they cruised through the regular season only to fall short in the playoffs. This time, it led to massive changes. Becky Hammon took over for Bill Laimbeer as head coach, and Liz Cambage left in free agency. Major overhauls such as this always create some question marks, but Hammon implementing a more modern style around former MVP A'ja Wilson -- re-signed this offseason -- and a dynamic backcourt led by Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Plum is a future to believe in.
