Fall HEAD OVER HEELS for the Music of "Tears For Fears"
A line-up of stellar performers salutes their generation's answer to "The Beatles"
It's a common mistake to assume that all "one-hit wonders" from the eighties faded away like Aqua-Net hairspray. Many bands of that era continued to write and record. Their songbooks grew richer and more satisfying, even if sales figures didn't reflect that fact. Former chart-toppers like A-Ha, Duran Duran, and Crowded House all released new albums recently. But few of them resonated as strongly as "The Tipping Point" by Tears For Fears.
Released in early 2022, The Tipping Point was the first studio album from Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith in eighteen years. Caught up in waves of studio interference, illness, and tragedy, the recording took nine years from inception to completion. The Tipping Point's depth, combined with lush orchestrations and insightful lyrics, made it an intensely personal project.
The album was a critical and commercial success. More importantly, its mature themes were embraced by fans who'd matured, along with the band, through four turbulent decades. Nearly two years after the album's release, Orzabal and Smith continue touring to support it. Now Las Vegas is about to get its own Tears For Fears fan-stravaganza.
'HEAD OVER HEELS: A Tribute to Tears for Fears' is the brainchild of Kevin Sucher. You may know this multi-talented dude as the frontman/creator of The Docksiders. He's also the production manager of Erika Jayne's showcase at Mandalay Bay House of Blues and has worked behind the scenes with dozens of big-name artists. Most importantly, Sucher's an intensely devoted fan of TFF.
Erin and Kevin Sucher
During a recent rehearsal, Kevin shared when he first discovered the band. It coincided with another growing obsession that's best left out of this piece. Kevin's musical and life partner, Erin Sucher, deeply understands his TFF passion. She joins him in this labor of love. HEAD OVER HEELS is described as "a musical journey through the iconic soundscape of Tears For Fears, masterfully curated and led by the extraordinary talent of 3x Grammy Nominee Kevin Sucher. With every note, they pay homage to the legendary British duo and bring their timeless classics to life in a way that captivates audiences across the globe." Everyone will recognize hits like "Shout", "Sowing The Seeds of Love", and "Head Over Heels". The set list will also recognize important works like "Elemental" and "Long Long Long Time". These songs may not have gotten much U.S. airplay, but they'll undoubtedly stun casual listeners.

Anthony Jordan and Mike Benigno
Drummer Mike Beningno (The Bronx Wanderers, MJ LIVE) told VEGAS 411 "I only knew the top hits before. Now I'm REALLY a fan". Along with Benigno, HEAD OVER HEELS features The Docksiders band members Anthony Jordan on bass, Theo Merriweather on keyboards, and Mike Standal on guitar. The Suchers provide lead and backup vocals. Special guests include Zowie Bowie and Michael Shapiro (Reckless In Vegas). The premiere performance will also present a powerhouse set by two-time Grammy award winner Ms. Monet. Fresh from a star-making stint on THE VOICE, Ms. Money channels original recording artist Oleta Adams for renditions of "Woman In Chains" and "Badman's Song". Both are from 1989's THE SEEDS OF LOVE. HEAD OVER HILLS: A Tribute to TEARS FOR FEARS will debut this Saturday inside the "Copa Room" at Bootlegger's Bistro. The show will then tour the nation. Sucher hopes to present it in Las Vegas two or three times a year, ideally with a rotation of guest stars. PIANO MAN's Kyle Martin, another longtime TFF fan, has already expressed interest. Tickets for HEAD OVER HILLS start at $25 (plus taxes/fees). Showtime is 8 pm. Phone 702.609.3390 for tickets. To book dinner reservations before the show, head to Bootlegger Bistro's website here.
Bootlegger Bistro and Copa Room are located at 7700 S. Las Vegas Boulevard, between Las Vegas Outlets South and South Point Resort. Ample free parking is available.
